Masashi Echigo generally takes long exploratory walks, to study and analyze the city in which he will later construct his work. Accompanied by encounters with the general population or experts who can guide or inspire his research, he systematically assembles visions, emotions and suggestions, taking pictures and gathering ‘evidence’ and found objects, or simply borrowing materials. The resulting archive, in the mind of the artist, is given new configurations, presented case-by-case to the public visiting his shows through scenographic works in a constant equilibrium between art and architecture.
